Beating Around The Homebush - a super fan more than ready to rock!
After exploration of the Burwood distric, it was time to trade the cosy neighbourhood where George, Angus and Malcolm grew up for Sydney Olympic Park, home to 80.000+ rockers tonight. The Homebush Bay area formed part of the traditional lands of the aboriginal Wanngal clan and is located well out of the city. During our 45 minute train ride from Sydney Central Station we got advised that the surroundings of the stadium were "Alcohol Free Zone", something my mum would have loved. Luckily it only meant you can't buy or drink out on the streets, but a refreshing pint of Stone&Wood would still be available inside the stadium and the bars around it.

The band was on fire, as they had been at the other Australian shows, and the energy spread straight to the crowd. This was hands down the best audience we’d seen. Overall much younger than in Melbourne. They were loud and passionately chanting “Aaaaangus!” — one point where Sydney clearly outshines Melbourne, ha! In Australia, encores are traditionally called for with a fierce chant of “one more song,” but this was the first time I’d ever heard a crowd screaming “ONE MORE TIME!!” during the show, after the band finished Highway to Hell. We simply couldn’t get enough. Even if the band would have pulled it off, the crowd might not have kept up — the energy was already stronger than the beer supply.”

"ONE MORE TIME!!" - the loudest crowd in Australia
The crowd was a decent representation of the Sydney population. All the ladies had come off Bondi Beach, something Brian clearly ignored when adressing the "boys". It caused the rest of the band chuckling leaving Brian puzzled for a moment. Until Angus laughingly says "Don't forget the ladies". Brian: "Now I'm in trouble with the boss, I'm not getting paid for this one". At some point a frontrow fan handed a poster of a well-drawn Malcolm portrait to Brian, who promptly took it to the drum riser to show Angus and the rest of the band. It was just another sign of the feel-good vibe radiating from the stage into the crowd - and back. The rock gods were served their offering, and feasting on it. What a night!
